Ski trophy"Harper Cup," Men's novice cross country skiing trophy, donated by Paul C. Harper and first awarded in 1923. Trophy is 10-1/2 inches tall with 4 inch diameter base. Trophy was awarded from 1923 through 1940, excluding 1936.Archives, C2NTThis is the second oldest Mountaineer ski trophy, after the Women's Skiing Trophy first awarded in 1922 (location unknown). The trophy is in fragile condition. The skier's right foot is detached from the ski (weld gone) and he is attached only by the left ankle, which is wiggly. (Possibly attached by an internal rod.)

Belonged to Herb Belanger, Mountaineer member and former reporter and photo-journalist with the Seattle Times. Compass is sighted by looking through a slot in the metal case while aligning dial and compass needle using folding mirror.
